General:

The only airport for the island with limited connections to Greece but an almost constant flow of flights to the UK

Appearance:

The airport looks relatively modern, but clearly struggles to cope with the number of passengers passing through, gate areas in particular are very cramped and despite there only being limited options once through passport control its advisable to pass through early to be able to get a seat

Inbound

Domestic
I have not arrived on a domestic flight at this airport

International
All flights are met by buses which take you from the plane to the terminal building, depositing you directly into immigration. From there it's a short walk to the large baggage reclaim hall and then out into the arrivals hall via customs

Immigration was quick and efficient - possibly helped by all passengers being on TUI holidays so some of the queries about accommodation and funds wouldn't need to be asked

The baggage reclaim hall has a couple of belts and baggage came round relatively quickly

There were customs channels, but these appeared to be unstaffed (only flights from various UK airports were landing at the time)

There are a handful of buses each day from the airport to Zakynthos Town centre

Outbound

Domestic
I have not flown domestically from this airport

International
I was flying with TUI from this airport and their operation is relatively slick with several flights arriving and departing close to each other so they are able to operate a large bank of check-in desks to speed up the process. Once through security there is a large duty free store and then out into Passport Control and then the departures lounge for non-Schengen destinations. The gate area wasn't really big enough in mid-October, so I suspect it's hellish during the high summer months. All boarding is done via buses from gate to plane

One largeish bar airside, nothing landside

A couple of café/restaurants airside with two in the no-mans-land between the duty free store and passport control

A couple of café/restaurants airside with two in the no-mans-land between the duty free store and passport control

A large duty free store immediately beyond security that you are forced to walk through to get to the gates, a couple of smaller shops beyond passport control

The toilets were OK
