General:

Very very small airport (only capable of handling very small planes) built into a couple of portacabins

Appearance:

The building is very elderly and looks quite run down. The building is made out of a couple of portacabins bolted together.

Inbound

Domestic
After disembarking the plane you walk into a portacabin where a small chute from the parking area allows your bags to be passed down to you, you turn round, walk through a door and find yourself out in the car park, welcome to Alderney

International
Alderney airport services are to the South Coast of England, Jersey and Guernsey so there is not really an international flight

No sign of any immigration or passport checks.

There is a small chute that comes down from the parking area which allows the baggage handlers to pass your bags down to you!

There is no sign of customs officials, let alone customs channels!

There is no public transport connection with the airport, St Anne's (the island capital) is about 8 minutes walk away and Bray (the harbour) a further 10 mins. There are a few taxi's if you are feeling particularly lazy!

Outbound

Domestic
There are two checkin desks (one for Aurigny and one for Rockhopper), the airport buffet, a metal detector and two security guards who check your bag. After checking in (minimum of 15 minutes before departure!!) you mill around in the very small checkin area (taking advantage of the airport buffet and combined duty free) until someone shouts out for passengers to go through to the departures lounge. The departures lounge is an empty portacabin or you can stand outside it if it is dry. As the maximum capacity of the planes are 15 you don't have to wait very long before boarding!

The Airport Buffet has a very very small selection. As all people for a flight are in the same room there isn't a separate departures lounge so it doubles up as the duty free shop and the departures lounge facilities as well as the landside facilities

There is one set of slightly elderly but clean toilets behind the airport buffet and what looked like one cubicle in the baggage reclaim hall
