General:

Main airport for the city with three large terminals dealing with national, regional and international flights (including intercontinental)

Appearance:

Very light and open with lots of glass and open spaces. Looks very modern up until the point at which you join the walkway to the train station which is much older

Inbound

Domestic
I have not landed at Terminal A on a domestic flight

International
Very short walk from the airbridge to passports and then straight into baggage. Signage to the station is a little confusing once you are through customs and took a couple of minutes wandering around until we saw the marked route

Very friendly and efficient passport checks (then again it was late at night and on an EU internal flight)

You almost fall over the baggage belts as you come through immigration as they are right behind it. I like the baggage hall here purely because for the first time in my life (and probably the last!) my bag was the first round.

Despite being in the EU and the flight coming from an EU country, and no more flights landing that night the blue channel was nowhere to be seen. Despite that there was nobody in the green channel so we sailed through in seconds.

Signage to the station is a little confusing once you are through customs and took a couple of minutes wandering around until we saw the marked route. It is about a 5 minute walk over a slightly aging walkway to the train station where a half hourly service to the city centre and beyond leaves from. There is also a regular airport bus from the front of the terminal, or you can take Metro line 9 to one of the suburban railway stations it connects with for more frequent trains into the centre of Barcelona.

Outbound

Domestic
Have not flown domestically into this airport.

International
Check-in area is very small with nothing much else there. Once you are through passports and security the departures lounge is very large and runs through to include the other two terminals with lots of shops but not very many restaurants. Most of the shops and restaurants close about 9:30pm though. Quite comfortable seating areas in front of the gates.

There is very little on the land-side of the airport, though we spent such a short time there I can't be certain of that. Once onto the air-side there are a couple of bars dotted along the length of the combined terminal buildings

Again, very little on the land-side but once through to the air-side there are several small cafe's

Again, very little on the land-side and I didn't spot any restaurants. Once through to air-side there is a small food court with 3 restaurants in the middle of Terminal B (Once through to air-side all the terminals are connected)

The combined air-sides of Terminals A, B & C are in effect a giant shopping mall with lots of shops from general high street fashion outlets and electrical retailers up to the traditional large duty and tax free shop.

The toilets are clean and well maintained.
