General: |
The main airport for the Basque Country. |
Appearance: |
The airport has a unique design which at the time of visiting they were attempting to expand on. Whilst the building looks spectacular, inside it's not got the greatest use of space |
Domestic
I have not arrived on a domestic flight at this airport
International
On landing you walk up the airbridge and into the terminal building. It's a short walk down to the immigration desks and then through to the large baggage reclaim hall. From baggage reclaim it's a short walk past customs officials out into the tiny arrivals area, which looks like it's just a shelter that's been bolted onto the outside of the building
Immigration was quick and efficient
The baggage reclaim hall is large but quite dark.
Rather than having channels there were just customs officials standing around near the exit from baggage reclaim
There are regular buses from the airport to the city centre taking about 25 minutes to make the journey
Domestic
I have not flown domestically from this airport

The check-in area is quite large and light, but it's arranged in a semi-circle and on very busy days I could see it quickly getting very full with lines getting muddled as they approach the centre of the area. Once through security you are into the departures area which is a long corridor above the gates. For non-Schengen departures you have to pass through passport control at the top of a slope leading down into the gate room. The gate rooms themselves are quire small and not capable of holding a full planes worth of customers.
There is nothing landside, and a couple of bar/cafes airside
