General:

The original part of the airport, divided into three areas A, B and C.

Appearance:

1950's/60's concrete construction and a confusing layout. There are very few services, like catering and shops, in this terminal. Most appear to have moved to the new terminal 2 building.

Inbound

Domestic
Have not come into this airport on a domestic flight

International
Flights into part A of terminal 1 are all the small planes that park on the tarmac and then require bussing to the terminal building. There is a small hall that has two immigration booths and then you pass into a light and airy baggage hall, before passing through glass doors and out into the arrivals area which is just a couple of seats and the doors out onto the road. The bulk of the airport is located above it.

Flying Into part A of the terminal there are no airbridges so you get bussed round to the immigration hall. There are only two booths which deal with all passengers, but as it was an EU internal flight made up almost exclusively of German or British passport holders it was very quick and efficient

The baggage reclaim hall is very light and airy with several belts, baggage came round in a matter of moments.

In part A of the terminal building there doesn't appear to be a customs hall, there were a couple of officials standing around but as the flight was within the EU they didn't appear to want to do anything.

There are regular trains to Köln Hauptbahnhof taking around 15 minutes and a half hourly bus service to Bonn Hauptbahnhof taking around 30 minutes

Share the same facilities as international.

Part A of the terminal building is quite small with a few check-in desks. There are no shops or restaurants in this part of the terminal you have to walk round to either sections B or C or Terminal 2. Once through security you go down an escalator to the departures lounge which has a duty/tax free shop in it and that is all, there are no other shops, cafe's, restaurants or other services!!

There are no dedicated bars in Terminal 1. Once through security there are no catering facilities in Part A. As I have not flown out of parts B and C of terminal 1 I do not know what services they have beyond security.

There is a small restaurant/cafe in part C of the terminal, there are no Restaurants in Part A. Once through security there are no catering facilities in Part A. As I have not flown out of parts B and C of terminal 1 I do not know what services they have beyond security.

There is a Burger King in part B, and a small restaurant/cafe in part C of the terminal, there are no Restaurants in Part A. Once through security there are no catering facilities in Part A. As I have not flown out of parts B and C of terminal 1 I do not know what services they have beyond security.

There are very few shops in the main parts of the Terminal building, most appear to be in Terminal 2. Beyond security in Terminal 1 part A there is only 1 duty/tax free shop. As I have not flown out of parts B and C of terminal 1 I do not know what services they have beyond security.

The toilets are clean and well maintained
