General:

The main international airport for Rome taking most of the major airlines (charter and budget airlines fly into Ciampino)

Appearance:

A modern airport with lots of light

I have not flown domestically from this airport

After landing you have to catch the 'Sky Train' from the satellite terminal back into the main terminal, there it's a short walk through immigration to the massive, but quite oppressive baggage hall, it's quite dingy and feels very cramped. The customs hall is about the largest one outside of the UK I have seen. Through there and you are out into the main arrivals hall

I came in on a flight from the UK and the checks for EU passport holders were very quick

The baggage hall is quite large, but with a low roof, and quite dim lighting it feels quite oppressive

A large customs hall, no officers, though

Trains leave about every 30 minutes for the 30 minute journey into the city centre

Whilst there are large numbers of checkin desks and quite a large open space so that the queues are not to bad there, at security there is only a small area, with several check points, but the queues were about 30 minutes long. Security takes you into the main departures lounge where terminal B has flights to other Schengen countries and Terminal C to non Schengen. About half the gates in Terminal C are at a satellite terminal, a short ride away on the 'sky train'

Lots of bars cafés and restaurants dotted around the terminal, both landside and airside

Rome has taken it's calling from BAA in the UK and now resembles a shopping centre which occasionally has some planes taking off

The toilets are generally clean
