General: |
The second busiest airport in Greece and the main airport for the island of Crete |
Appearance: |
The airport is located just on the edge of town and appears relatively modern, however inside parts of the building could do with refurbishment |
Domestic
After landing we were bussed round to the domestic and Schengen arrivals door which lead to an escalator up to baggage reclaim. From there it’s a short walk into the arrivals hall
International
I have not landed on an international flight at this airport

The baggage hall is quite cramped, especially if several flights have arrived together

There are regular buses running to the centre of the city from outside the terminal building
Domestic
After checking in and going through the small security screening area you are in the departures hall which has seven gates and insufficient seating for the number of passengers there if flights start getting delayed. In most instances once boarding starts you descend steps to a waiting bus to be taken to the plane. At a couple of gates, and with smaller planes, its possible to walk down to the plane as it's parked directly outside the terminal building
International
International passengers are separated at security into a different part of the terminal, but once at the gate they too board buses out to their planes
There are two small café/bars in departures
