General:

The main international airport for the country, located on a peninsular about 45 minutes from Reykjavik

Appearance:

Since my original visit in 2006 the terminal building has been significantly enlarged and expanded, with additional gates and more space.

The airport looks modern when you land, and pass through immigration, but as you make the long walk back to the baggage reclaim hall you enter into a terminal that looks very 1970's! The baggage hall is quite dark and in need of a bit of a refurb, the customs hall is almost non-existent and then its out into the arrivals hall by the coach to town

A couple of desks just after getting up from the gate with friendly staff

A small and quite dark hall which is in need of refurbishment

A very short corridor, but with lots of staff standing around

The FlyBus meets each flight and takes about 45 minutes to get into the city centre

A spacious checkin area with lots of desks and kiosks. Once through security the departures lounge is also large and spacious. For non-Schengen flights you have to walk past a large number of gates before reaching passport control, which is probably the most cramped part of the airport. Then it's downstairs to the international gates, via another duty free shop.

Nothing landside, couple of Café/Bars through security

Nothing landside, couple of Café/Bars through security

Couple of small kiosks serving food

Large duty free shop immediately past security and then several smaller shops in the main part of the terminal building

The toilets are, on the whole, clean - though in need of refurbishment
