General:

The main airport for the Shetland Islands, at the very southern tip. (all internal flights leave from Tingwall airport a few miles north of Lerwick)

Appearance:

Looks like the bridge from a super tanker, a large plastic object rising from the side of the surrounding hills. Bizarrely situated on an isthmus so that all traffic has to wander around 3 sides of it's perimeter to get out.

Inbound

Domestic
After getting off the plane you walk across the tarmac to a small door, up a breeze block lined corridor to the baggage belt, set to one side of the main hall

International
I have not flown internationally from this airport

Flew domestic so no need to go through immigration

A single baggage carousel in the main departures hall!

Flew domestic so did not experience customs

Busses to the centre of Lerwick run from outside the airport. There are only about 6 a day but they appear to match the flights if they are on time

Outbound

Domestic
There are just 8 check in desks which are in a large hall that also contains all the catering, shopping and waiting for the airport. Only once your flight has been called can you progress through security to the one gate room with space for about 100 - great considering all the planes that use the airport have a maximum seating capacity of about 70!

International
I have not flown internationally from this airport

The café has a chiller with bottles of beer and alco-pops in it

A small café in the main body of the airport, also doubling as the shop

None

1 small shop combined with the café

The toilets are clean
