GermanWings flights park on the airfield and you have to be bussed to the terminal building. From the bus arrival bay it is a short walk up to the immigration desks, and then straight into the baggage reclaim hall (which, conveniently, has ticket machines for the S-Bahn) and then through the very small customs hall to the arrivals hall, directly in front of the escalator to the S-Bahn station
Two desks open, but very speedy and efficient dealing with all the passengers
A large baggage hall with lots of belts, despite the number of belts it does not feel to cramped
A very small customs room with no one in sight
The airport has it’s own station which is on Stuttgart's S-Bahn network. During the day, Monday to Friday, there are regular trains to the city centre. At other times they are only half hourly and the journey takes almost half and hour

Although the airport has four terminals in reality it only has three! Terminal 2, which I departed from, only exists as check-in desks, beyond that all other facilities are in Terminals one or three. Like Hanover airport you are required to have your hold luggage scanned and tagged by German security before you can check in. From there it's a choice - Go through terminal one or terminal three security to the combined departures lounge. German wings planes park on the airfield, so you have to be bussed to and from the terminal building
Several bars on both landside and airside
Café/bars on both Landside and Airside
A couple of restaurants on both sides
Lots of shops all over the terminals
The toilets are very clean and well maintained.
