General:

The main airport for the east of Switzerland, along with Geneva the only major international airports in the country

Appearance:

The airport is relatively modern, and appears to have been recently refurbished. My plane landed at the new 'Pier E' which is very new and shiny

I have not arrived on a domestic flight at this airport

As I landed at pier E it ended up being a very long walk from the aircraft. After walking half the length of the terminal building you descend onto the transit to the main building. The transit takes 3 minutes, and then its quite a walk at the top to immigration. From there it's another long hike through to the massive baggage reclaim hall, then out into the landside of the airport

Immigration is a very long walk from the plane, but the staff were very friendly and welcoming

The baggage reclaim hall is massive with over 20 belts spread out over two floors. Locating where your baggage is coming off is interesting!

Straight through from the baggage reclaim hall into customs, and for the first time ever, I got stopped. They checked my bag in the scanner, apologised for delaying me and then let me continue wishing me a happy holiday!

Zurich airport has it’s own station beneath the main terminal with regular S-Bahn, Inter Regional and Inter-City services back to the centre of Zurich, and the region

The main drawback to the airport is that you have to walk long distances everywhere. The train station gets you to checkin zones 2 and 3. Zone 1, where I checked in, is about a 10 minute walk. However, this is next to passport control so you would have to walk anyway! Through into the departures lounge and it’s a short walk to gates A and B. Gates E are at the end of a three minute transit train to the new terminal. Once off the transit it's straight into security and from there through to the gates

Several cafes, bars and restaurants dotted throughout the terminal building

A couple of small shops landside, large range of shops airside

The toilets are very clean and well maintained.
