By pure luck the gallery has free entry on a Sunday morning so I the fact I only had about 45 minutes to look around didn’t feel like a waste of an entry fee.
Having taken in the gallery I headed back to the hotel, packed my bag, checked out and walked down to the Marina Garden to pick up the bus back to the airport where, after some more computer prodding, the member of staff was able to locate my booking and check me in all the way through to London.
I headed up to the lounge for a little while before it was time to head down to board the plane and head back to Madrid for my 4-hour transit.
Or at least it would have been 4 hours if the flight from A Coruña hadn’t been so efficient and landed super early, getting to the stand 20 minutes ahead of schedule meaning that I had nearly 4½ hours to kill at the airport.
Thankfully, for once, the sheer size of Madrid airport played in my favour as it took the best part of an hour to walk from the gate back to the centre of the terminal, down to the shuttle, out to T4S, through passport control and up into the lounge.
I spent a couple of hours in the lounge before a gate was finally assigned to our flight and then within seconds went straight to boarding, so I packed up my things and headed down to the gate where, sure enough, boarding was already well underway. In the end with the efficiency of the process we were all boarded a good 10 minutes ahead of schedule and with a short taxi were airborne less than 30 minutes after leaving the lounge and on my way back to London.
