After finishing work for the day I grabbed my bags and headed over to East Croydon where I changed onto a pretty busy rush hour service south towards my destination for the weekend, Horsham

The train was pretty busy most of the way, only really emptying out after Crawley, so I had to stand for a fair amount of the journey, and that was before the 15 minute walk from the station to the centre of town and my Premier Inn for the weekend.

I checked in, dropped my stuff off in the quite warm room, so I switched on the air-con and headed out to have a look around town. I first headed down through the Carfax, the centre of the town, formed by the meeting of four roads which would previously have been the main routes through the town, but since bypasses and a ring road have been built it’s now a pleasant mostly pedestrianised area.

Being the Carfax is the Market Square and the former Town Hall, which is now a restaurant and behind that is the Causeway, a road of some of the oldest buildings in the town that leads down to the large Parish Church of St Mary’s.

Having taken a wander around the church and the Causeway I headed back towards the Carfax and quickly visited the spire, this is all that remains of the former church of St Mark’s which was demolished to make way for offices for an insurance company.

From there I headed back to the Carfax and managed to grab a bite to eat before heading back to my hotel where I found the air-con had switched back off and the room wasn’t much cooler than when I’d gone out, but at least there was a fan in the room so I was able to get that blowing before I grabbed a nightcap in the bar and then turned in for the night.
