BA put the flight to boarding an hour before it was due to leave, but by the time I got to the gate the crew were still only just in the process of heading down the jet bridge, so it was clear there was going to be a little bit of a wait.
The boarding process was as chaotic as they’ve all recently been with a very rapid run through the different groups and everyone in groups 4 and 5 having their luggage taken off of them, but it sort of worked and 15 minutes before our scheduled departure time we were all fully loaded, the doors were closed and the jet bridge was being retracted.
The captain managed to perform some black magic and at the busiest time of the day sneaked away from the gate early and had an almost clear run all the way to the end of the runway.
We had a smooth flight over, which turned out to be quite a bit quicker than I think even the pilots thought as the point at which the captain got back on the speaker to update us on our progress, some 45 minutes into an 70 minute flight, it was to say that we would be landing in 10 minutes time, cue a rather rapid tidying up of the cabin.
Everything appeared to have aligned as we landed less than an hour after we’d taken off, and then only had a couple of minutes taxi before we reached the gate, which meant we were 25 minutes early into Frankfurt.
A very quick walk through the terminal to Immigration and I finally managed to get myself registered for EES (European Entry Exit System), being one of the first to the desks also meant I was through quickly and onto a bus towards town that left 10 minutes before we were originally due to arrive at the gate.
I changed from bus to tram south of the Main as the tram would get me within 100m of my hotel for the night and after a surprisingly quick journey I was in the hotel and heading to bed just before 10:30.
