For the first time on the journey the bus actually filled up to more than 20% full, though only for a few minutes as about 10 minutes down the road we pulled into the forecourt of Harstad/Narvik airport, the main airport for this part of the world, and most people disembarked, leaving an almost empty bus for the final run into Narvik.
About 45 minutes later we came around the side of a fjord and stopped at Bjervik, again making a delayed connection with a bus, this time the one to Tromsø, and from here into Narvik it was all very familiar as I’d travelled this way on previous journeys going between Tromsø and Narvik.
As there were other people with luggage getting off at the bus stop right outside the hotel I decided to leap off here as well – I would otherwise have carried onto the bus station a minute or so down the road as I wasn’t quite certain how you indicated to the driver that you wanted the hold opening, but as someone else had done it for me.
Consequently, I was checked into the hotel and in my room less than 5 minutes after stepping off of the bus, and quite hungry given I’d travelled right through lunch.
I grabbed a sandwich from the neighbouring supermarket and quickly ate that before heading into the centre of town to do a little sightseeing, stopping off at the old Post Office and then heading up to the Narvik Museum to have a look around that.
I had a bit more of a wander around town before heading back to the hotel and taking advantage of the discount voucher I got from the hotel chain to have a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant before heading back to my room to relax for a bit before heading to bed for the night.
