I had a reasonable night sleep, though the three-hour time zone difference and the shortened day meant it took some time to drop off, and my alarm at 05:30 felt like it had arrived too soon.

A quick shower and breakfast number one in the hotel before I checked out and headed over to the airport for breakfast number two in the lounge to prepare myself for the queue to get out of the country – it had looked much longer than the queue to get in had when I’d arrived on Thursday evening.

Thankfully the queues were reversed with only one family in front of me in the queue to exit Denmark, and at least 100 people, if not more, trying to get in, with more people joining the back of the queue all the time.

The gate was actually the closest one to passport control, so in the end I had to sit around for a good 10 minutes before boarding started, but once again it was a smooth and quick process with us all closed up and ready to go 20 minutes early, but with flight restrictions in place in London we had to wait for our scheduled departure time before we were allowed to set off.

A combination of slightly dirty windows and a pretty heavy heat haze floating over London meant the final approach was all a bit blurry – unsurprising as London was about to break the record for the hottest May day ever, surpassing the record set the previous day.

Back in London it was a very smooth journey through the airport and I was out and heading home before 09:30, more than enough time to be back at my work laptop for the half day afternoon shift.
