I didn’t have the greatest of nights sleeps, mostly as the room was quite warm, so I had to have the window open, but the square outside appeared to be the nightlife capital of the city, with Karaoke still going on well past 3am.

The hotel breakfast was pretty plentiful, so that in part made up for the lack of sleep, helped by some seriously strong coffee. After packing my stuff back up again I checked-out of the hotel and headed over to the tourist information centre to take in the two films that they show on the history of the city and the cathedral, the latter all the more useful given how little of the building is currently accessible to visit.

From the tourist information centre I headed over into town to hit a couple of the museums to fill up most of the day, starting with the Folklore museum and then taking in the Natural History, Military History and Fine Arts museums.

Pretty much museum’d out I headed back over to the Grand Place to have a very late lunch in a café before heading next door to one of the bars to have something to drink before it was time to start heading back to the station to catch the train back into Lille.

The journey to Lille was pretty uneventful, as was the walk to the station, though being just 20 minutes later than the previous week it was clear how quickly the queues build up for check-in as it took a good 40 minutes from joining the queue to finally clearing security and getting into the waiting room, after a 30 minute wait we were ushered down onto the train for the smooth journey back to London.
