General:

The only airport on the islands, built by British Troops during WWII with the intention of having a landing strip rather than a commercial airport, so It's built on the largest flat bit of land in the islands, rather than being conveniently located for the capital

Appearance:

The small airport is basically one single storey building which contains all services.

It's a short walk from the plane to the terminal building and immigration, the two boxes are wedged into the small space between the doors and the baggage belt. The belt itself is wedged up against a duty free shop and the phone to call customs if you want to declare anything, then it's through a door to the arrivals zone.

Immigration was speedy and very efficient, despite it being about the only international flight of the day!

The single baggage reclaim belt is quite large for an airport of this size, so an entire flight can stand round it with nobody having to push through to get to their bags.

A phone attached to the wall if you need to declare to customs

Buses to Torshavn meet each flight and then take around 55 minutes to get to the capital

There are four checkin desks, of which half were open (I think that's the highest ratio I have ever seen!) After checking in you have to stay landside until just before your flight is ready to board. Then it's through the security area to the single gate and duty free shop. For all flights you have to go past the passport control boxes, but for domestic departures these are not staffed, then its out onto the tarmac for a short walk to the plane

None

There is one small café in the land-side area of the airport

None

1 small kiosk in the land-side area, one small Duty Free shop by the departures gate, another Duty Free shop by the baggage reclaim hall in arrivals

The toilets are very clean and well maintained.
