As I landed very late at night the plane was parked on the airfield and we were bussed to a non-Schengen gate stairway which we had to climb to reach passport control, then down another flight of stairs to the baggage reclaim hall and then out to arrivals
Immigration was quick with three people on, even though it was 03:45
The large baggage hall has a couple of belts and a lot of space
At 04:00 in the morning with only passengers off a heavily delayed Gatwick flight there wasn't anyone in customs
There are regular shuttle buses from the airport to the centre of the city

After checking in and going through security you enter the main departures lounge via the Duty Free store. For non-Schengen flights there is a passport control area immediately before the small number of gates that handle these flights.
