General:

Only airport for the island, and a major gateway during the summer for people heading to the island for the beaches and clubbing

Appearance:

The large modern airport is spacious, and in the winter months is mostly in darkness as only small corners are used. I could imagine in the summer that it gets very full

Inbound

Domestic
I have not arrived on a domestic flight at this airport

International
After landing it was a short walk up an air-bridge to the terminal building and straight into the immigration hall. That leads through to the massive baggage reclaim hall with many belts and then out past a phone for making customs declarations to the arrivals hall

Immigration was efficient and quick, the space is clearly set up for the arrival of large numbers at the same time so one small plane was easily dealt with

The massive baggage hall clearly has the capacity to deal with lots of holidaymaker flights, much of it was in darkness in winter

There didn't appear to be a customs area, just a phone on the wall if you needed to make a declaration

During the winter months the number 10 bus runs every 30 minutes into town, taking around a half hour. During the summer the frequency is more regular

Outbound

Domestic
Domestic flights were departing from the same area as international flights

International
In the winter months a large part of the airport is in darkness as there are far fewer passengers. After checking in and passing through security the departures lounge was mostly in darkness. Rather than using an extra-Schengen section two police officers checked the passports of departing UK bound passengers at the gate. For some reason, despite there being lots of gates available with air bridges, we had to be bussed to the plane

In winter there was just one small café/bar open airside. There were clearly more, but these were all shut

In winter there was just one small café/bar open airside. There were clearly more, but these were all shut

In winter there were no restaurants open, but there did appear to be a couple in the closed off areas of the departures lounge

Only two shops were open in Winter, but there were clearly many other shops that are available during high season

The toilets were clean and well maintained
