General:

Once one of the key airports in East Germany, it is now the main hub for all the low cost carriers. Redevelopment work is about to get underway to create a new airport on the site, once completed the other two airports in Berlin (Tegel and Templehof) will be closed and this will become Berlins sole airport

Appearance:

Quite a small airport, which has grown haphazardly. Terminal B has been given exclusively to easyJet and is consequently very very orange

Inbound

Domestic
I have not landed at Terminal A on a domestic flight

International
After arriving, and walking to the terminal building you arrive at immigration. From there its along some passageways and up and down random steps before exiting the building, walking along another part of the airfield, into another building and up to the baggage reclaim belts. From there its down another short corridor, which acts as the customs hall, to the arrivals hall

Two desks which dealt quickly with all the passengers

After a hefty walk you reach a cramped baggage hall with just two belts

From baggage reclaim the customs hall is effectively the corridor you walk down to get to the arrivals hall

Schönefeld station is about a five minute walk from the terminals, or you can catch the bus! Trains leave about every 10 to 20 minutes and take between 40 minute (S9) and 30 minutes (Regional express) to reach the centre of Berlin

Outbound

Domestic
I have not flown domestically from this airport

Very small terminal buildings, and lots of stairs. easyJet have done away with checkin desks so you have to use terminals, the deposit your bags at a desk. Security is in the same area and once through its up a flight of steps into the small departures lounge. The gates are even smaller with considerably less seating than there are passengers

There is one small café/bar landside in each terminal, there is a small café/bar airside

There is one small café/bar landside in each terminal, there is a small café/bar airside

There are no restaurants at the airport, only cafes

A couple of small shops both sides of security

The toilets are very clean and well maintained.
