General:

The main airport for the city handling intercontinental traffic (there is a small airport in the harbour). The airport is surprisingly small and cramped for the number of people travelling through it.

Appearance:

At the time of visiting the airport appeared to be undergoing refurbishment

I have not arrived on a domestic flight at this airport

After arriving it's a relatively lengthy walk from the air bridge back to the main terminal building and to an initial electronic border where you have to scan your passport and answer customs questions. From there you walk down into the immigration hall where passengers either have to see an immigration official, or are bypassed in the case of relevant passport holders (UK being allowed to bypass). From there its into the quite cramped baggage reclaim hall and then out through customs to the arrivals area

Immigration was split into an electronic check of the passport and customs declaration before reaching the immigration hall. In the hall passengers were separated, by nationality, into those who had to undergo further interviews by border staff and those who were allowed to bypass and continue straight through to baggage reclaim

The baggage hall is quite cramped, not helped by works that were going on at the time. Bags came round relatively quickly

There was a small customs hall which had a lot of staff on duty

From terminal 3 you have to take the inter-terminal transit train back to terminal 1 where you can pick up the Union Pearson Express train into the centre of the city

Outbound

Domestic
I have not flown domestically from this airport

The main checkin area is very cramped with not much space for queuing with several queues managing to get muddled into each other as I was looking for the desks I needed to use. Once checked in and through security you are into the large departures lounge where there are lots of shops and restaurants. It's then a lengthy walk to some of the gates

Several bars both airside and landside

Lots of cafes both airside and landside

Limited facilities landside, but plenty of outlets airside

A large number of shops airside, including a substantial duty free store

The toilets were clean and well maintained
