General: |
Small regional airport located around 40 miles from the centre of London. |
Appearance: |
The airport is a single large modern building. |
Domestic
Domestic arrivals enter the building at one end into a baggage reclaim hall that is located next to the exit from customs.
International
On arrival you walk back to the terminal building and into a large immigration hall where there are 8 desks for checking of passports. Once through there you are into the small baggage reclaim hall and then into a corridor which doubles as customs before you exit into the arrivals hall
Immigration was efficient, and entirely human operated, which for a London airport is quite different to the usual experience
There is a small baggage reclaim hall immediately next to immigration
Customs appeared to be a corridor, with a side route off of it should you need to make a declaration. As all the flights are either domestic or from the EU at the time of travelling customs weren't really an issue
There are regular trains from the neighbouring station into London Liverpool Street
Domestic
Domestic and International flights are handled the same way at the terminal
International
There is a small check-in area taking up one end of the building. From there you go up a floor to the security screening area and then back down to the departures hall which stretches the whole length of the building. There are no airbridges at the airport, all boarding is done by walking onto the apron to board by steps
There are no bars landside and one bar airside
There is a café both landside and airside
A small restaurant airside
A couple of shops airside and a WHSmith's landside
The toilets were clean and well maintained
