Almost all the buses are modern and comfortable, running to regular frequencies, they cover the gaps in the tram network as it radiates out from the centre
The large network of Trams mostly radiate out from the Centraal station, which can make cross city journies more complicated, but are generally reliable and comfortable. Unlike most other trams I have been on, each tram has a conductor who you have to show your ticket to, meaning you can only board by two of the doors, which can slow down the trams in the city centre
Regular and reliable trains run from Amsterdam out to many of the neighbouring major cities, as well as international services into Belgium, France and Germany. Many of the trains are modern with comfortable double deck trains operating on many routes
Several ferry services cross the River Ij from behind the centraal station. All the services are free, including for bikes, and operate at regular frequencies
